10th June 2019

I have just recently come to the end of my sessions with Keith and I can honestly say that it was the best thing that I have done in a long while. Having the usual reservations regarding mental health I approached my sessions with an open mind as I was willing to learn and was intrigued to say the least. I started my sessions with Keith asking for “deeper cuts” as I knew that I had done scratching the surface exercises myself and my own personal issue was that I had lots of thoughts, some conflicting and needed someone to help me organise them. Keith was just the man for the job. He is very good as listening to absolutely everything that I was saying and has this amazing ability to pick out some little detail, which actually holds alot of weight and he would ask me to elaborate on that point. This would give me something to think about and work on in the coming week before we met up again. The weekly sessions were organised and Keith was very good at keeping me up to date and flexible (as We were expecting our second child at the time) this was much appreciated. Keith was able to give me pro-active pointers so I could concentrate on certain thoughts for the coming week and bring them up for discussion if required. All in all a very very good experience, but I would like to say a massive ‘Thank you’ to Keith as he was able to give me exactly what I required. He delivered 100% on the “deeper cuts” I asked for and that lead to my overall satisfaction.

Continuing to help me in my everyday life!

Did you know the World Health Organisation (WHO) states that depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide. It affects people of all ages and can sometimes result in suicide.

“Depression is that problem that happens to other people and not me”

Now you might think of depression as, “that problem that happens to other people and not me” but according to Mind, the leading charity dealing with mental health issues, 1 in 4 people experience some form of mental health problem every year.

1 in 4 people experience a form of mental health problem every year

So think about your workplace or your circle of friends.  The likelihood is you’re not alone in dealing with this problem.  I have previously suffered from depression and can say from my experience how difficult it can be to manage without help. I couldn’t concentrate on anything. Sport, which I loved, seemed to lose its appeal. I simply felt lost and didn’t have any purpose.

It can lead you to feel suicidal

These were just some of my symptoms but depression can affect us all differently. You might present with low mood; but at its worst depression can lead you to feeling suicidal. Maybe you can still function on a daily basis but it can also be a real struggle to just get out of bed in the morning.  You might notice that you are gradually becoming more isolated or you’ve stopped enjoying the things that you used to find real pleasure in doing. Any of this sound familiar? There are a large number of symptoms but what we shouldn’t forget is how debilitating it can be.

Treatment options for depression include counselling

So what can you do about it? Well the fact that you’re reading this means that you’re in the right place.  The main treatment options for depression are usually some form of talking therapy, medication or a combination of the two.  The talking therapy I offer is counselling and will provide you with the calm, grounded environment in which we can explore the difficulties you are facing.  Through this exploration I will help you gain a greater awareness of these difficulties.  Once you better understand what has brought you to your current situation, you will then find that you have choice in how to move forward.  With my approach, I will help to build your self-worth and empower you to make the changes you wish to make.

Whilst I have all the necessary qualifications to help you, I believe having some personal experience of successfully dealing with depression is an advantage.

I’ve been through counselling myself

I’ve been through counselling myself and I understand how unsettling it may be to first admit you need help and then to ask for it.  The first time you meet your counsellor and share your most personal difficulties can be hard.  Just having to face past difficulties can feel like an impossible task.  I understand this and for this reason I’ll help you achieve your goals at the pace which is right for you.  This can start with just making that first contact.
